The vocabulary handouts from this year used words from the General Service List. This is a list of the most common words in English. There are 2284 words on this list. We learned the first 340. If you know all 2284 words, you can read about 85% of all written English (books, magazines, newspapers etc.). You can see the full General Service List here.
Remember, the most efficient way to remember new words is by using flashcards with spaced repetition. I encourage you to continue to study these words, and to continue to do extensive reading.

Fotobabbles
Over the past 2 weeks, we've been making Fotobabbles. Making Fotobabbles was a great activity for practicing your English. It began with the writing process in class. Here is a review of the steps we followed:
Step 1: Planning
We used a mind map for this. You should always take a few minutes to plan what you are going to write.
Step 2: 10-Minute Writing
Having a time limit forced you to write as much as you could quickly, without worrying about mistakes. It's important to get your ideas on paper. Don't worry about mistakes. You can fix them in the next step.
Step 3: Reviewing and Editing
I don't expect your English to be perfect, but I expect you to do your best to check it for mistakes before you give it to me. Here are the minimum requirements for your writing:
- Your spelling must be correct
- Every sentence must have a subject and a verb
- The subjects and verbs must agree (My fatherlike likes skiing.)
Step 4: Writing the Final Draft
Rewrite your Fotobabble script neatly, writing on every other line.
The next step is recording your Fotobabble. Some important points to remember:

The next step is recording your Fotobabble. Some important points to remember:
- Make sure you can pronounce every word correctly.
- Practice reading a few times before you record.
- Record as many times as you want, until you are happy with the result.
Remember, the more you read your script out loud, the smoother it will be.
You all did a great job! You can view your Fotobabbles here, or click the Fotobabbles tab at the top of the page!
